WDM Media Converter 10/100Mbps, Singlemode, 60kmThe ME-3920-WDM60-SC (single fiber (WDM), singlemode) media converter transfers data over a single singlemode fiber at 100Mbps (at 1310nm and 1550nm) and connects to copper Ethernet at 10 or 100 Mbps while auto-sensing the correct speed. Maximum distance for this unit is 60km (37.3 miles). Distance on the Ethernet side is 100 meters (328 feet) using Cat-5 or better (unshielded or shielded twisted pair) copper cable. The fiber connections are SC and the copper Ethernet connection is RJ-45.
This media converter uses wave division multiplexing (WDM) which transmits and receives over one singlemode fiber optic strand (simplex fiber). It does this by using a different wavelength for each transmit and receive (1310nm and 1550nm). This is accomplished by using a matched pair of media converters, one of which transmits at 1310nm and receives at 1550nm, while the other transmits at 1550nm and receives at 1310nm.
